I agree with other reviewers that this book is a must read for anyone in the philanthropic field and non-profit sector but along with the wisdom, knowledge and educational value this author shares with his readers it is also a guide to authentically navigating through these sectors (and life) with grace, gratitude, empathy and compassion.In today's world, philanthropy is a big money-making industry that can be compared to being in a shark tank, eat or be eaten, sink or swim and this book goes back to the core values of what it means to help the greater good that we are working for and towards. Nathan Fay incorporates strategies to get that seat at the table while showing us how to maintain transparency and authenticity to the organization, the cause and oneself - we do not have to navigate within this field like vultures.Every chapter teaches you something new whether its tactical, statistical, and/or revenue based, but what differs from this book from all the others out there is that Nathan approaches this process with a philosophical background and mind-set. One thing I loved about his book is that he starts every chapter with an inspirational quote from someone; whether a philosopher, a poet, himself or someone that has influenced him directly it also relates to his personal journey and growth in the philanthropic world.For anyone who wants to grow in this field, both professionally and spiritually, than this is the book for you. It takes you back to the roots of fund-raising BUT shows you how to move forward and up-we cannot stop growing or becoming stagnant and compliant. I'll close this review with borrowing a section from Chapter 45 (Impermanence and Healthy Detachment): "Every project you work on has a shelf life. Every product you create will eventually fall out of use. This is a good thing. You cannot remain relevant while remaining the same. By mastering the art of detachment, you will be better equipped to know when to retire your work and replace it with something better."
