Ken Farmer creates exceptional characters who live on in the reader's heart and imagination. He bring the past and future together with just the right mixture of sentiment, humor and family ties. A must read for anyone who loves to read.
Another intriguing tale! Not enough stories deal with this area of North Central Texas in this period. The actual history there is plenty enough to fill many volumes.
This was an average short of sci-fi western combo . The story depends on you having read the previous books. This isn't stand alone, to make sense of it you must have read the previous books.
This historical Old West series and all its spin offs is one I’ve followed from the beginning with The Nations series. Ken Farmer, has an incredible imagination. He does a totally believable job of combining fiction with true history and adds touches of the paranormal. It’s slip-stream story telling at its best. These stories have developed so many layers as they’ve progressed that I am amazed at how Farmer can keep all the details straight – story to story.This spin-off series with Bone and Loraine adds whole new possibilities to this series as both Bone and Loraine explore their own pasts and come face to face with.... well, I don’t want to create a spoiler here. I have a feeling I know where these stories will lead – or perhaps, I am so involved in them now that my imagination is jumping ahead trying to guess what may happen next. I wait with bated breath for the next story.Farmer never loses touch with keeping the series firmly planted in the Wild West. Yet, the modern day characters, activities and movement – time-travel – adds an air of fantasy and excitement when we consider the possibilities. It is truly amazing how this author can weave such a slip-stream story and have this reader wishing it could be true. The implications are mind-expanding. I’m rooting for Bone and Loraine as they have the possibility to change history as well.
After Loraine gets shot, they finally admit their feelings for one another. Now they have a wedding to plan. They are trying to decide where to go on a honeymoon. After a stunning revelation that Flynn and Fiona are Bone’s Grandparents, Bone is very protective of them, especially since Fiona is pregnant. Flynn and Fiona have never had a honeymoon so they decide to go with Bone and Loraine to San Antonio. Of course, there is an attempted Train robbery on the way leading to much excitement. The Inn they are staying at belonged to Loraine’s great grandfather and that provides some interesting family history for her. Of course, there is trouble at the Inn and the group steps in to help Loraine’s great step grandmother.Padrino, Bone’s Godfather in the future figures out how to transport him self through the same portal to help in the battle against the bad guys when they invade the town of Jacksboro and hold it hostage. Needless to say, it’s one heck of an adventure and keeps you turning pages long after you should be asleep in bed. I devoured it on one sitting and was really upset when I turned the last page and there was no more. Stayed tuned for the Next Book 15, Bones Gold coming soon, possibly in May.
I love this book, as I love all of Ken Farmer's book. His books keep me on the edge of my seat. The way he keeps throwing the unusual in there really works. I am also very grateful he is keeping Loraine and Bones in the past with Padrino. It is so cool they can travel back and forth through time. What's next Ken?
