My 5th grader reads aloud for 45 minutes every day. This has been a life-changing book for her (and myself) as it opens littles eyes to a world they take for granted. We have paused many times throughout to talk about various life-lessons, gratitude, faith, judgement and prejudice, humanity, culture, oppression, victory, perspective and on and on... we cried and laughed -and are still talking about it... Martin and Caitlin and their families are now part of our day to day lives and conversations... exceptional and brilliant presentation for all ages. Thank you.

When I ordered this book, I was intrigued by the story of friendship between two teens from opposite sides of the world. The early chapters establish the contrast between the lives of a teen enjoying the amenities of suburban American life as compared with her Zimbabwean counterpart, who must set aside his studies in search of the basics for the survival of his family. These two teens initially understand so little about each others' lives, families, cultures, and countries but share an inquisitiveness that slowly fosters a lasting friendship. I returned to their stories with the same eagerness they felt awaiting an answer to their last letter and found myself crying over the sincerity of the struggle to help a friend transition from the depths of poverty. I visited Zimbabwe many years ago and was happy to read about the familiar sights as well as recall the warmth of its people - so sad to know how difficult life has become there. So much was accomplished through the penpal diplomacy of these two teens and their supportive families - we all have much to learn from their example.

I started reading this because it was a summer reading requirement for my son, as he prepares to middle school. I loved the honest, real story, starting with Martin just wanting to connect with Caitlin as one kid to another, rather than his status impacting her opinion of him. Then, his story unfolded in ways that helped both change their worlds and those of many others. In times when Americans are so fortunate to have so much, this book represents a hopeful, honest reminder about life in less fortunate parts of the world, inspiring us to do more, give more, and be more for others.

I bought this book because I had 100+ penpals when I was in middle and high school. They were from all around the world. I have found I learned so much about the world from my penpals.Honestly, I couldn’t put the book down. I remember waiting so long for letters from Mauritius or Lithuania or Tonga. In the 1970s, mail might have taken longer, but it was so exciting to get letters from friends. As I’ve grown older and the internet & social media has brought the world even closer, I have found some of my penpals! It is great to know what they are doing at the same time I’m reading their post! Waiting for letters and packages to arrive instilled patience.Caitlin and Martin, thank you for writing this book together. It is beautifully written. Martin, you are a strong man! Blessings to your family here and in Zimbabwe. Caitlin, you must be a person who loves the world like I do! We have 2 Russian Imports ourselves! We adopted 2 children from Kaliningrad, Russia in 2004. They are not biologically related but they are brother & sister.I will be recommending this to my penpal reconnections on Facebook. Thank you so much for bringing back good teenage memories.

I really liked I Will Always Write Back: How One Letter Changed Two Lives by Caitlin Alifirenka and Martin Ganda. The book is well written and it draws you in. This is an excellent book for junior high aged children. This book tells us that people in American or Zimbabwe are not that much different. People want the opportunity to further their education, so they can make a meaningful living and support their families. The book is about an American girl and a boy from Zimbabwe and how becoming pen pals changed their lives, their families and their friends. A simple act of kindness can have an impact that is far reaching.I would highly recommend I Will Always Write Back to readers who like: memoirs, writing letters, stories about courage, trying hard and happy endings.

I happened to ask a friends daughter what her favorite book was. That's how I discovered this book. I highly recommend this book and the story it tells. It pulled me in as soon as I started reading it. The true story is very inspiring. Teens will enjoy reading it but it's not just for teens. People of all ages will enjoy reading it too. It's a story about pen pals and how one girl and her family were able to provide a future for a boy from Africa. In the process, they learned about each other's cultures; especially the hardships of Martin and his way of life and the lifestyle of Caitlin, and the things taken for granted in America. It's a quick read because once start reading the book, you won't want to put it down. Get the book and enjoy yourself!

I purchased this ebook this morning while pursuing my daily Kindle Book buys. The title caught my eye and I read the sample. I couldn’t stop reading it. A 12 year old girl in Pennsylvania writes a letter to a young boy in Zimbabwe. This starts them both on a path that would change both of their lives. An enjoyable read for young adults and anyone interested in seeing how being open, honest and kind to another person can transform lives.

I gave this book 5 stars because it is something all young people should read. I work in a high school of very privileged students. They could all learn something from Caitlin and Martin as their parents could learn too. What a beautiful story of friendship, generosity, and human kindness. There is hope for the world!
