I've just returned from a driving trip to Nova Scotia and on to Prince Edward Island. I brought the book with me and we tried to follow several routes as described by the author. Often with my wife reading the applicable passages as we drove the routes. I would like to point out two shortcomings.1. This book is still 1st edition. I can't see the publishing date, but there is a copyright dated 2011...so the book is at least 6 years old. Thus some of the commentary was outdated. A 2nd edition is needed.2. Much more significant is that each drive is described in a "linear" fashion, from Town A to Town B. Which is fine if you are travelling in that direction. But frequently we found ourselves needing to travel in the reverse direction (from Town B to Town A) to fit our larger goal of driving to/from P.E.I.That is MUCH more difficult than it sounds!! The writer will describe turning right, then left and describe a sequence of viewing scenery & the text does NOT lend itself to "reading backwards"! There was no help from the author in her preface....is she aware how limiting this is?Me? I'm not sure what the "fix" would be, other than offering text for EITHER direction in the one book. So the reader could read one or the other route? Obviously that would bump up the # of pages quite a bit....which is not a great end-result since the book is already almost 1 inch thick.Bottom line is that it was just an "OK" purchase. At least it has been reduced significantly in price. I would not recommend it though.
This guide is very detailed but not to a point that would make aboring read. We spent six weeks in Atlantic Canada a few years ago, we consider it to be our best trip, even though we have spent time in several European countries and a few weeks in Japan. I say buy this guide, read it and follow it to a memorable visit with warm and friendly people and spectacular scenery!
Wish there were more photographs. Since the descriptions are mostly text, hard to visualize a part of the continent I am not familiar with.
Perfect for planning a road trip to the Atlantic Provinces. Just enough detail for a very thorough overview with intent to google search even more. Like the organization. Loved some of the special places to visit, i.e Nova Scotia, detour out of Wolfville to Fox Hill Farm for cheese tasting of aged Cheddar and Gouda. Book wiill be with us on our trip.
Bought this to help plan my road trip around Nova Scotia. This is a great book and has helped to plan my route, what to eat and where to stay. It is a little bigger than the other book I got to help plan but it is not too big. It would easily fit in a carry on and has a ton of information.
Excellent, detailed guide to various drives in Atlantic Canada. We are using it to plan a trip to Nova Scotia.
The description of the drives and details of the maps are very good. We have not made the trip but surely hope to travel one day.
